When charismatic and ruthless businessman, Rick Carver evicts Dennis Nash from his home, a single father trying to care for his mother and young son, Nash becomes so desperate to provide for his family that he goes to work for Carver. Carver promises Nash a way to regain his home and earn security for his family, but slyly seduces him into a lifestyle of wealth and glamour. As Nash falls deeper into Carver's web, he finds his situation grows more brutal and dangerous than he ever imagined.
It won Grand Prix at 2015 Deauville American Film Festival. It also screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
Ramin Bahrani was born in 1975 in North Carolina, USA. He is a writer and director whose films have screened at Venice, Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, and Toronto Film Festivals. He has won numerous awards including the FIPRESCI critic’s prize for best film in Venice (Goodbye Solo, 2008) and the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, among many others. He has been the subject of retrospectives in venues such as the MoMa in NYC. In 2010 legendary film critic Robert Ebert proclaimed Bahrani as “the director of the decade”.
