        • SYNOPSIS

          After thirty years of marriage, the protagonist discovers a secret about her husband which will force her to make a decision – continue living in hiding from the truth, or leaving everything she has ever had and start an entirely new chapter. At the moment she finds out she is very ill, she also discovers war crimes from her husband’s past and, for the first time in her life, she has to make certain decisions for herself.

          Mirjana Karanovic was born on January 28, 1957 in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia. She is an actress and director, known for “Esma's Secret - Grbavica” (2006), “Podzemlje” (1995) and “When Father Was Away on Business” (1985).

          She was a president of the jury at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2009, and also a member of the jury at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2009. She won the Konstantin Obradović Award for her contribution to furthering the culture of human rights. She also won the Annual Award of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre in Belgrade for the role of Mirjana in “A Play about Mirjana and those around her” by Ivor Martinić. She won the Žanka Stokić Award for her acting accomplishments in the Serbian theater.

          She has been a professor of acting at The Academy of Arts in Belgrade since 1998.
