15 years ago, Maca lost her child, and her husband abandoned her. Struggling to make a living in Belgrade, she works as a folk singer.
Her ex-husband Jovan, decides to leave monastic life, feeling that there is a mission for him to accomplish.
Maca is full of hate. Fearful of God’s punishment, she strives to redeem herself, praying and fasting.
Jovan, returns to life when he believes to have found a living God in the mentally challenged Milica.
Oleg Novković, graduated at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in the class of Srdjan Karanović. He is one of the most prominent directors of his generation. He is both recognized for his documentary work and his feature films, while also working as an associate professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. Novković launched his professional carrier with feature film Why Have You Left Me (1993), followed by Normal People (2001) and Tomorrow Morning (2006) - both participated in various domestic and international festivals and won numerous awards.
His most recent film, White White World, which premiered at the Locarno Film festival in 2010, was shown in more than 30 international festivals all around the world (including Tribeca, New York and Pusan, Korea), winning over 25 awards, among others the Golden Leopard in Locarno (Best Actress) and the Grand Prix in Cottbus Festival.
Patria is the second part of the trilogy that started with the White White World.
